Acne Scarring

Acne Scar Treatment in Athens, Commerce, Lake Oconee, Elberton & Winder, GA

When an acne outbreak occurs, the body produces more collagen to combat the tissue damage papules, pustules, and cysts cause. If too little or too much collagen is produced, a scar will be left where the inflamed pore was.

Hypertrophic scarring occurs when too much collagen is produced, leaving a raised scar. Atrophic scarring is the more common type of scar and is a depressed scar or pockmark left behind due to loss of tissue. Along with scarring, hyperpigmentation, or darkening of the skin, can appear where acne once was. Usually, this fades on its own, but treatments with chemical peels, laser therapies, or topical creams can help.

Treatment Options for Acne Spots

The treatment  best for you depends on the severity and type of scarring present. Other factors including budget, downtime, and desired results will be considered by your aesthetic provider in developing a treatment plan.

Sometimes, more than one approach will be used in treating acne scars; these may include topical, laser, chemical peel, and filler options. Bellafill is a long-lasting filler for acne scars that provides immediate volume and lift, while also supporting your skin’s own collagen production for lasting improvement. The filler is injected into the scar, raising the scar, and creating the appearance of a smooth surface.

Laser Genesis by Cutera is a non-invasive laser treatment designed to gradually improve the tone and texture of the skin, large pores, and scarring with little to no downtime. It also targets the microvasculature to improve the pink color of acne scars.

Chemical peels use concentrated solutions of acids and chemicals that help to exfoliate dead skin cells, smooth skin, and even pigmentation. The type and strength of chemical peel treatment  necessary depends on your specific skin type and the severity of your acne scarring. Usually, multiple sessions are necessary for optimal results.
