We have all seen radiant, youthful appearing skin and wished that we could attain it by simply taking a pill. Unfortunately, by the time many of us take seriously the application of sunscreens and moisturizers, much of the sun’s ultraviolet affects have already done their damage.
We are fortunate today because technology exists that can help improve our complexions even after damage occurs. At Georgia Skin Cancer & Aesthetic Dermatology, we help you sort through the thousands of products and procedures that claim maximum results to find the one solution that truly meets your needs.
Your treatment is determined based on what you perceive to be the most troublesome aspects of your complexion. We will devise a treatment plan that is personally catered to addresses those particular issues.
The Basics of a Healthy Complexion
There is no “one size fits all” approach to enhancing a person’s complexion, however, the fundamentals of complexion begin with a daily use of moisturizers and sunscreen. In our Athens office and other locations, we offer product brands that our staff personally uses and believes in. We can also make recommendations for products that can be easily obtained over the counter in many drug stores.
In addition to fundamental skin care, another helpful option is the use of a retinoid such as Retin-A, Avage, or Differin. Retinoids are useful not only for treating acne but have also been demonstrated to significantly improve fine lines and some pigmentary abnormalities with regular use. We will work with you to devise a skin care regimen that best suits your needs and your skin type. There are also many procedures available to treat your specific concerns. Light brown spots and redness are particularly well treated with our intense pulse light.
Photo rejuvenation with IPL is a fantastic option for many patients as it is a minimally invasive procedure with very little down time and can be used to treat the face, chest, neck, arms, and hands. We have a variety of other lasers available to treat other specific problem areas such as superficial veins not amenable to treatment with sclerotherapy, brown spots, or tattoo removal.
Chemical peels provide a great way to improve complexion. Patients love the “lunchtime peels” with very little downtime. Dr. Campbell trained with Gary Monheit, who discovered the 35% trichloroacetic acid/Jessner’s acid medium depth chemical peel. This procedure has more downtime associated with healing, but is still the gold standard for treatment of brown spots and fine wrinkles on the face on the face and has yet to be replaced by any laser therapy.
In summary, there are a myriad of products and procedures advertised to improve your skin complexion. We will help you navigate these waters being a source you can trust and we look forward to helping you look your very best!
